Special Masses
Reservation: Reserving a seat for Mass will be required for all, please click on the appropriate links above. Each person/family member (including children of all ages) wishing to attend Mass MUST be included in the online reservation "count." If you know of someone who does not have access to the internet, there are a LIMITED number of seats that can be reserved by calling the Rectory (773-486-4300) starting at 9 a.m. on Friday Morning prior to Sunday Mass, and starting three (3) days prior to any of the "Special Masses."
Church Doors and Cooler Weather - Cooler weather is upon us, and we need to act accordingly! Church doors will open NO EARLIER than TWENTY (20) Minutes prior to the start of a Mass or service. Covid protocols of Checking in, Temperature Check, and Ushering to your pew will still be in place, so there might be times where you'll have to wait outside and we hope that you plan accordingly. If there are people in line, perhaps wait in your car until a more appropriate time. Or, perhaps time your arrival a little earlier than normal to avoid the last minute rush into church.
Masks/Facial Coverings: You will be REQUIRED to enter church, and it MUST be worn for the duration that you are inside church except when you receive communion. If you are feeling under the weather, have a fever, cough or otherwise immunocompromised, please DO NOT come to church. Please understand this is for the health and safety of everyone, and we greatly appreciate your patience and understanding.
Social Distancing & Sanitization: There will be markings on the floor as to which direction you are supposed to walk, similar to what you see in the grocery store. And there will also be markings on the pews as to where you are to sit, members of the Greeting Team will escort you to your seat.
Live Streaming on Facebook: If you are not able to attend, Mass will be live streamed on SJB's Facebook page. An archived version will be available on the Parish's YouTube Page later that morning.
New Liturgical Ministries
New Covid-era Liturgical Ministries - We are in need of people to volunteer in these new Liturgical Ministries and help facilitate our new (hopefully temporary) reality INSIDE and OUTSIDE of the church.
- Greeting Team: Greeters will assist in managing the flow of congregants as they enter the church, participate in the liturgy/sacrament, and exit the church. Team members will combine some of the functions of an usher, such as directing participants to appropriate seating/waiting areas, but will include additional responsibilities, including, but not limited to, making sure attendees use hand sanitizer upon entering, are wearing a mask, and are reminded not to enter if ill. Given the circumstances, greeters will need to be tactful and firm, paying careful attention to all people on-site.
- Disinfecting Team - This team will work with the staff to ensure that the space is clean. The team will help maintain and sanitize essential and trafficked areas of the church before and after the church has been used. Masks and gloves will be provided, if necessary, in addition to approved cleaning/disinfecting supplies. Per the certification process, parishes will need to develop appropriate schedules and verification methods to ensure cleaning occurs at the proper times relative to when congregants arrive and leave the church building. To support the cleaning team, guidance on proper cleaning procedures will be provided in the webinar training as well as in the Supply Starter Kit. This team will expand when we eventually open for public Masses.
- Set-Up Team - This team will work with the staff to ensure that the space is ready. The team will ensure that: all supplies needed for each sacramental celebration/gathering are ready for use, entrances and exits are marked and propped physically open prior to attendees’ arrival/departure, windows are opened, restrooms are stocked and managed, etc. They will ensure hand sanitizer is available and that pews are marked off according to social distancing guidelines. Much of this work will be accomplished in conjunction with parish maintenance crew.
To volunteer please email Louie Russo. The archdiocese asks that team members are not part of a vulnerable population. However, it is up to the team member to understand and accept any risks. All members will need to understand the training materials and checklists associated with their team.
