Father Marshall’s Musings/Reflexiones del Padre Marshall

I am Father Patrick Marshall, a priest of the Archdiocese of Chicago.  I have been assigned by Cardinal Cupich as the Administrator of St. John Berchmans until a new pastor is named.

Father Wayne Watts has told me a great deal about you and how sad he feels leaving such a vibrant community.  All will miss his pastoral guidance.  Our prayers and gratitude accompany him as he takes up the leadership of St. Joseph Church in Wilmette.

I am coming to you after finishing a six-month sabbatical of which I spent three months in Rome.  The time apart from pastoral duties has afforded me time for rest, reflection and continued learning.

I have spent the past 27 years as the Director of the St. John Newman Center at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC).  They were great years of working with young adults as they were negotiating their lives and exploring how their faith guides them.  How Blessed I was to be with generations of students.  I have great hope for the Church having interacted with so many young Catholics.

I am looking forward to be with you to learn how to be a parish priest again.  Please help me to learn and be patient with me!!

The great feast of the Epiphany calls us to reflect on how Jesus manifests Himself to us in our daily lives.  He come daily into our lives and sometimes we don’t recognize Him or are following a path leads us from Him.  Let this feast remind us to be committed to daily prayer and reflection on the Christ who is always with us.

For your further understand of the Epiphany please read the poem the Journey of the Magi by T.S. Eliot.

In His Spirit,

Fr. Patrick Marshall

Eliot.

En Su Espíritu,

Padre Patrick Marshall
